Years ago I was out of a job, I knew I would need to do things to keep my heart and my mind solid for job interviews, emails I’d need to write and just to generally stay positive. I would pray many times a day, I would try to listen to great music or sermons, one other way I stayed positive is to go up to Church and volunteer. Having volunteered for years I knew that there was an army of volunteers and that it took all of them to help the Church get things done. There just seemed to always be so much to do and so little time. God always makes a way though. One particular day I went up and was talking to my friend Lori that I volunteered for. This day she needed me to do some computer things. Right up my alley, so I created a spread sheet and filled in all the information she needed me to fill in for her. This one was a simple and no brainer for me because this is something I’ve done in my jobs for years and I can type pretty quickly too. So I got her spread sheet done and saved. Fast forward a week and I was back over volunteering again. Her boss, who was someone I knew of but had never been formally introduced to came walking around the corner while I was there and spoke to me. First, I was shocked that he actually knew my name and he called me by my name. He also thanked me for putting that spread sheet together and in quick time. This was a huge help to his team and he was really grateful.
Isaiah 49: 14-18 14 But Zion said, “I don’t get it. God has left me. My Master has forgotten I even exist.” 15-18 “Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I’d never forget you—never. Look, I’ve written your names on the backs of my hands.
That evening I was thinking how impressed I was that this man knew my name. I saw him at Church several more times in a few month’s time period and again he greeted me by name. I had no idea how he knew my name and how he remembered it, we just had not had many interactions. There was something so gentle in his spirit that I felt drawn to him as a Pastor. Sometime later I heard him teach a class and wow was I blown away at his calm nature and just all over really awesome demeanor, this guy was the real deal. After this I saw him what seemed like more than not. Eventually the team lead for my area of volunteering changed and we got a new staff lead, she was a really sweet lady and was very much the female version of this man. Turns out she is his wife. I am not sure I’ve met many people who are nicer than this couple, if I can put a description on it. They eat, sleep, breath and ooze God’s love.
I feel so blessed to know these people, in thinking about them, that they care to know my name and care about who I am and how I am, it is much like Jesus – which our names are written on the backs of His hands. That He wants to know us, cares about how and who we are and every part of our lives.
Nobody loves you better!
Dear Heavenly Father, Just want to come to You today and give thanks. Thank You for Your great love. Thank You that my name, our names are written on Your hands. Amen
